Director, Arid Lands Information Center, Office of Arid Lands Studies

The Office of Arid Lands Studies is seeking an energetic 
environmental scientist with a research emphasis on arid and 
semi-arid lands, who is also committed to developing tools for the 
deployment of science results and information via the Internet. The 
successful candidate will be expected to provide leadership as 
Director of the Arid Lands Information Center (ALIC).   Additionally, 
the successful candidate will be appointed to a continuing eligible 
faculty position as Assistant/Associate Research Scientist and will 
be expected to develop a program of sponsored research that will 
further ALIC's long-standing program of developing and disseminating 
information about the world's drylands.  The area of specialization 
is open but we are most interested in candidates with an applied 
research focus in hydrology and climatology, landscape ecology, or 
resource conservation and management.  In addition to leading ALIC, 
the candidate will be encouraged to teach courses in the Arid Lands 
Resource Sciences Graduate Interdisciplinary Ph.D.

OALS is an interdisciplinary research unit in the College of 
Agriculture and Life Sciences established in 1964.  It currently 
consists of four divisions:  Arid Lands Information Center, Arizona 
Remote Sensing Center, Desert Research Unit, and Southwest Center for 
Natural Products Research and Commercialization.  The University of 
Arizona is noted for interdisciplinary research, and additional 
opportunities exist for collaborating with world-class Earth Systems 
Science researchers in the the College of Agriculture and Life 
Sciences, College of Engineering, College of Science, College of 
Social and Behavioral Sciences, and the Institute for the Study of 
Planet Earth.
