---Many libraries are exploring the benefits of using the Linux operating
system in their institution. It can lower a library's software costs,
provide for more predictable technology planning, reduce security concerns,
and offer more flexibility to users.

Libraries are currently using Linux with other open source software for
- Web/file/mail servers
- Library portals
- Automation/integrated library systems
- Digital libraries
- Web content filters
- Electronic reserves/journals systems
- Virtual reference systems
- Public access computers

Join us for this overview of Linux and open source software and find out how
it can benefit your library's staff, patrons, and budget. Attendees will get
hands-on experience with Linux and library-related projects.

In this workshop, you will learn:
- What is Linux?
- What can libraries do with it?
- What is needed to implement Linux?
- What is needed to support it?

Glen has over 10 years experience supporting technologies in library
environments. Currently residing in Cincinnati, Glen has served as the
Technology Coordinator for the Greater Cincinnati Library Consortium (GCLC)
since 1999. His duties require him to have experience in a wide range of
technologies. He is responsible for providing technology assistance,
technology training and facilitating shared projects within
the GCLC membership.
